Bathroom & Kitchen Insurance Backed Guarantee Guides

For independent bathroom and kitchen fitters. No law makes you offer an insurancebacked guarantee — which is exactly why offering one can help you win quotes.

Bathroom and kitchen installation has no compulsory Insurance Backed Guarantee (IBG) scheme. Offering one anyway is a simple way to stand out: it shows the homeowner their money is protected even if your company ceases trading as per the policy terms. Around six in ten homeowners say an insurance backed guarantee being included in their quote influenced who they hired. HomePro has issued over 1.78 million Insurance Backed Guarantees since 1999.

Quick answers for installers

The questions our team gets asked most often — answered clearly, without jargon. Last updated July 2026.

Do bathroom or kitchen installers legally need an Insurance Backed Guarantee?

No — there is no compulsory scheme for bathroom or kitchen installation. TrustMark-registered businesses must provide a minimum two-year Insurance Backed Guarantee on domestic installations, but for most fitters the cover is optional. That makes it a differentiator rather than a cost of doing business.

Why offer one if it isn’t required?

Because trust wins quotes. A kitchen or bathroom is a big spend, and the homeowner’s quiet worry is what happens if something happens to the installer halfway through the guarantee. An Insurance Backed Guarantee answers that in writing. In HomePro’s research, around six in ten homeowners who knew about the cover said it influenced who they hired.

What does an Insurance Backed Guarantee cover on a bathroom or kitchen install?

It backs your own company written guarantee for faulty workmanship and faulty materials per the policy terms and conditions. If your company ceases trading, the insurance backed guarantee comes into effect and honours valid claims, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy. Appliance faults stay with the manufacturer’s warranty.

How long should the guarantee last?

It mirrors your own written guarantee up to a maximum term, typically between two and ten years for bathrooms and kitchens. TrustMark requires a minimum of two years for registered businesses. A longer guarantee, backed by an insurance backed guarantee, is a stronger selling point on higher-value installs.

What happens if my company ceases trading?

That is when the Insurance Backed Guarantee matters most. The homeowner claims through the policy, and valid claims your company would have met are honoured — repair-led, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy. It protects your customer and your reputation.

How do I mention it in my quote?

Keep it simple and keep it in your price — installers are not authorised to sell insurance, so never show it as a separate cost. One line does the job: “This quote comes inclusive of an Insurance Backed Guarantee from HomePro.”
