    UNDERSTANDING YOUR OPTIONS

What is a Double Glazing Insurance Backed Guarantee?

A double glazing insurance backed guarantee (IBG) underwrites your companies written guarantee and safeguards your customers’ investment if your business ceases to trade as per the policy terms and conditions. Unlike a company guarantee, an IBG is underwritten by an FCA-regulated insurer — meaning your customer is protected even if the installer goes out of business.

When a homeowner has windows, doors or a conservatory installed by a HomePro member, eligible work can be protected by an IBG certificate covering:

    • Defective workmanship — any installation faults during the guarantee period
    • Faulty materials — product failures for the full duration of the policy
    • Deposit protection — up to 25% of contract value (max £10,000)

The level of cover provided will depend on the policy terms, conditions and limits.

HomePro IBGs for double glazing can provide up to 10 years’ cover and are backed by our underwriters. Policyholders may also benefit from protection provided by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).

      COMMON QUESTIONS

Double Glazing IBG Frequently Asked Questions

What is a double glazing insurance backed guarantee?

A double glazing insurance backed guarantee (IBG) is an insurance policy that protects homeowners if their window or door installer ceases to trade as per the policy terms and conditions. HomePro IBGs cover defective workmanship, faulty materials, and optionally the customer’s deposit.

      Is HomePro FCA regulated?

Yes. HomePro Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA reference number 304449). All HomePro IBGs are underwritten by our underwriters and policyholders are protected by the FSCS.

Do I need to be registered with FENSA, CERTASS or Assure to get a HomePro IBG?

No. You do not need a competent person scheme registration. However, if you are registered with FENSA, CERTASS or Assure, HomePro can auto-issue your IBGs directly from your BRCCs, saving significant admin time.

How long does a double glazing IBG last?

HomePro double glazing IBGs are typically issued for up to 10 years from the date of satisfactory installation completion, covering defective workmanship and faulty materials for the full policy period.

How much does a double glazing IBG cost?

HomePro IBG pricing is based on installation value, with no non-usage fee — you only pay for IBGs you actually issue. There is no monthly standing charge. Contact HomePro for a personalised quote.

Do HomePro IBGs cover the whole of the UK?

Yes. HomePro provides Insurance Backed Guarantees for double glazing installers across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

What is the difference between a double glazing company guarantee and an IBG?

A company guarantee is provided by you, the installing company — if your company ceases to trade as per the policy terms and conditions, the company guarantee falls away and the Insurance Backed Guarantee comes into effect.

Does offering an IBG help win more double glazing sales?

Yes. HomePro data shows customers are up to 67.45% more likely to accept a quote from an installer offering an Insurance Backed Guarantee. IBGs also demonstrate professionalism and financial stability to your prospective customers.

How do I join HomePro as a double glazing installer?

Complete the short registration form on this page. A HomePro team member will call you to explain the membership benefits and complete the application process. After your vetting is complete and you’re approved, your account manager will activate your membership, and you can begin issuing IBGs.

What happens to my customer’s guarantee if my business ceases to trade?

If you cease to trade as per the terms and conditions of the policy, the HomePro IBG takes the place of your company guarantee for the remaining period of cover — typically up to 10 years from the date of installation, depending on your company guarantee. The policy is an insurance contract underwritten by Red Sands Insurance Company (Europe) Ltd or Accelerant Insurance UK Ltd.

Is my customer’s deposit protected before the installation is complete?

This depends on the type of IBG you provide your customer — HomePro offers Deposit & Warranty Cover as one of four IBG types. Deposit cover protects up to 25% of the contract value paid as a deposit, capped at a maximum deposit of £10,000. It begins the moment a deposit is paid and ends either when the deposit policy term expires or when the work begins, whichever is sooner. Deposit policies are typically between 90 to 120 days depending on the underwriter — your Account Manager can confirm the exact terms on your policy wording.

Is an insurance backed guarantee a requirement for FENSA, CERTASS or Assure registration?

Yes. If you self-certify domestic double glazing work through a Competent Person Scheme such as FENSA, CERTASS or Assure, it is a legal requirement to include Financial Protection (an Insurance Backed Guarantee) in your quotes for a minimum of six years from completion. The requirement applies to domestic dwellings only and does not extend to commercial work. For local authority and housing association contracts, financial protection does not need to be provided, but it must be offered. HomePro IBGs satisfy this requirement and integrate directly with all three schemes.

Can I switch my IBG provider to HomePro from Installsure, CPA or QANW?

Yes — switching to HomePro is straightforward, and there is no break in cover for your customers. From your go-live date with HomePro as soon as you switch from your CPS, every new job you register is issued under a HomePro IBG. Any IBGs you have already issued under your previous provider remain in force under that provider’s policy for the full term, so existing customer cover is unaffected. Your Account Manager will guide you through onboarding, including auto-issue setup with FENSA, CERTASS or Assure if applicable.

Is the IBG transferable if my customer sells their property?

HomePro IBGs underwrite your company guarantee, which means that if your company guarantee is transferrable, so is the IBG.

Can HomePro IBGs auto-issue through FENSA, CERTASS and Assure?

Yes. If you are registered with FENSA, CERTASS or Assure, HomePro can auto-issue your IBGs directly from your Building Regulation Compliance Certificate (BRCC) submission. You only need to process the job once — when you notify your Competent Person Scheme — and HomePro handles the rest. This removes the manual policy admin step from every job and means your customer’s IBG is in place as soon as the work is registered with the scheme. And what’s more, you’re kept in the loop throughout the process via email, and have full control of your auto issues policies via your portal.
