How to auto-issue FENSA BRCCs for Insurance Backed Guarantees

With auto-issue, notifying a job to FENSA is the only admin you do — the Insurance Backed Guarantee follows automatically. Here's the full flow from joining to your customer's documents, step by step.

Auto-issue means your Insurance Backed Guarantee (IBG) triggers automatically when FENSA registers your Building Regulations Compliance Certificate. You notify the job once. The policy follows by itself. So there’s no separate portal to log into, no end-of-month batch and no job to enter twice. Here’s how it works with HomePro, step by step.

Quick answer: With auto-issue, notifying a job to FENSA is the only admin you do. FENSA sends your certificate data to HomePro each week, you get a 7-day window to correct any errors or mark jobs that don’t need a policy, and the Insurance Backed Guarantee is then issued automatically — with the homeowner’s documents sent by email, usually within 24 hours of issue. The same flow runs for CERTASS and Assure.

What is auto-issue — and what does it replace?

Most providers make you register each completed job on their system, even though you’ve already notified it to FENSA. In other words, you key the same job in twice. And every manual step is a chance to miss one. A missed policy on a domestic job is a breach of scheme rules, not a paperwork niggle.

Instead, auto-issue removes the second keying entirely. When FENSA records your Building Regulations Compliance Certificate (BRCC. The document proving the job meets Building Regulations), the scheme sends the data to HomePro. The policy issues from that feed.

As a result, every notified domestic job gets its Insurance Backed Guarantee — every time, without you doing anything you weren’t already doing.

How does the FENSA BRCC-to-IBG flow work?

Step 1 — Join HomePro and pass vetting

A short form and a call. HomePro runs financial and legal checks, because providers have to know the businesses whose guarantees they stand behind. Switching from another provider is also straightforward. Once you’re live, you have a named account manager with a direct line.

Step 2 — Set HomePro as your provider with your scheme

First, tell FENSA (or CERTASS or Assure) that HomePro is your Insurance Backed Guarantee provider. You choose from the scheme’s approved list. From that point on, the scheme knows where to send your certificate data.

Step 3 — Complete and notify jobs exactly as you do now

Next, finish the job, issue your written guarantee and notify the scheme. That’s it — there is no step where you enter the job into a HomePro system. The scheme records the BRCC and sends the data across each week.

Step 4 — Check your weekly email and use the 7-day window

Each week you get an email listing the BRCCs received. There’s then a 7-day period before policies issue. Your chance to put anything right:

  • Correct data errors (a mistyped address, wrong completion date)

  • Mark duplicates

  • Mark jobs that don’t need a policy — commercial, housing association or local authority work

  • Push an urgent job through early if the homeowner needs their documents sooner

Step 5 — The policy issues and your customer gets their documents

After the 7-day window, the Insurance Backed Guarantee issues automatically. After that, the homeowner’s documents go out by email, usually within 24 hours of issue — by post it can take a little longer. Their paperwork names the FCA-regulated insurance standing behind your guarantee, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy.

Each registered policy also invites the homeowner to leave a review, which then joins your public HomePro profile. Compliance done, and proof of your work building up in the background.

What do you still have to do yourself?

Three things, none of them new:

  1. Notify every job — auto-issue can only follow your notifications. An unnotified job has no BRCC and no policy.

  2. Read the weekly email — thirty seconds to confirm the list looks right.

  3. Mark the exceptions — commercial, housing association and local authority jobs, and any duplicates.

And one thing you never do: explain the insurance to your customer. Your quote says the job comes inclusive of an Insurance Backed Guarantee, HomePro’s customer-facing materials cover the rest, and questions go to your account manager.

Does auto-issue work for CERTASS and Assure too?

Yes — because the same weekly feed runs from all three glazing Competent Person Schemes. If you belong to more than one, or you’re thinking of switching schemes, the flow stays the same: notify the job. The policy follows.

Frequently asked questions

How do I auto-issue Insurance Backed Guarantees through FENSA?

Join an approved provider that offers auto-issue, set them as your provider with FENSA, then notify jobs as normal. With HomePro, FENSA sends your BRCC data across weekly and the policy issues automatically after a 7-day correction window. You never enter the job a second time.

How quickly does my customer receive their documents?

Usually within 24 hours of the policy issuing, by email. Post, however, can take a little longer. If a homeowner needs their documents urgently, you can push the job through early from your member portal rather than waiting for the weekly cycle.

What if a job on the weekly list shouldn’t have a policy?

Mark it in the portal during the 7-day window. For example, commercial, housing association and local authority jobs don’t need an Insurance Backed Guarantee. And you can flag duplicates the same way.

What happens if I forget to notify a job to FENSA?

Auto-issue follows your notifications, so an unnotified job gets no certificate and no policy. And an unnotified domestic job is a Building Regulations problem in its own right. So notify every domestic job. The rest takes care of itself.

Does auto-issue cost extra?

No. It’s how HomePro issues glazing policies as standard for FENSA, CERTASS and Assure members. Instead, you pay per policy, with no non-usage fee in quiet months.
